Charity big breakfast in Alcester attracts hundreds hungry for a full English

THE PROMISE of a full English in the company of fellow neighbours had hundreds turn out to Alcester’s Greig Hall for their autumn portion of a charity Big Breakfast.

Thanks to the hard work of Alcester and Bidford Rotary Club, what has become a major social occasion saw just under 300 people enjoy a fundraising fry-up for good causes last Saturday (October 12).

President Nigel Curtis said: “We were amazed. From the get-go we were busy and there was a steady queue all morning. We think we served a record number of breakfasts, resulting in many happy and full-up Alcester residents.

“It was manic in the kitchen so I am so grateful to all our members and helpers who give their time freely from very early in the morning to make this great community event such an incredible success for everyone.

“It wouldn’t happen without them, the generous local businesses, and of course all our hungry customers who come along and loyally support us every time.”

The venture raised an impressive £1,800 profit and members will be meeting shortly to decide which good causes in the community and further afield the funds will be distributed to.

Businesses that supported the morning with donated or discounted supplies include Clayhall Farm, Honeybourne, and Waitrose, Freemans Butchers and Simply Fresh from Alcester.

The club is part of Rotary International, the world’s largest service organisation with more than 1.2 million members. Its main objective is service – in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world.

Alcester and Bidford branch meets on the first and third Thursdays of the month at 7.30am at the Kings Court Hotel, King’s Coughton. On the second Thursday of the month, the group meets at 7pm. New members welcome.
