REDDITCH Royal British Legion’s (RBL) poppy appeal has officially been launched.
The Redditch RBL branch will be out in force to raise funds to provide financial, social and emotional support to millions of serving and ex-servicemen and women and their families.
This year’s appeal was launched at the Kingfisher Centre by members of the Redditch RBL, poppy appeal co-ordinator Gerry Marsden and his assistant Nicki Farnes.
The event was attended by the Mayor Coun Juma Begum, Chris Bloore MP, and Armed Forces Champion Coun Sharon Harvey.
Mr Marsden who has held the role of poppy appeal co-ordinator in Redditch for eight years, said: “Our honorary guest, 93 years young June Cooke from Bowood Court Care Home, was one of our amazing volunteers who knitted and crochet poppies for the window display in the Kingfisher Centre and also for donations.”
This year’s Remembrance Parade takes place on November 10, with participating groups are requested to arrive from 10.15am, ready to get into parade order for 10.30am.
The parade will start outside Palace Theatre and the service will be held outside St Stephens Church at the War Memorial starting at 10.45am.
On Armistice Day on Monday November 11, there will also be a service at the Plymouth Road War Memorial, starting at 10.45am.
