Redditch History Society to look back at the winter of 1962

REDDITCH History Society continues its season of local and national history talks with a presentation on social history this Monday, December 9, at the Oasis Christian Centre.

The presentation at the meeting will be by their own Anthony Green, secretary and newsletter producer for the history society and a dedicated chronicler of many aspects of the history of the town.

He will be talking about the winter of 1962/63 and the freezing temperatures and snowy conditions.

It was an unexpectedly long and snowbound season, and Tony was there at the outset, camera in hand, to capture the snowfall’s impact on the inhabitants of Redditch.

He will explain how he was able to devote the day to photographing the first day of the ‘winter wonderland’ and how inadvertently he was taking snapshots of many streets and buildings which were to change or even disappear a few years later when the Redditch Development Corporation arrived.

Tony’s nostalgic presentation will be followed by seasonal refreshments in the Reeves Room.

Redditch History Society meets at the Oasis Christian Centre from 2pm to 4pm on the second Monday of each month except August and January.
