Alcester streets turned into an outdoor gallery with the return of the Wanderland

ALCESTER was transformed into a colourful outdoor gallery recently with the return of the Window Wanderland.

Now in its sixth year, the creative initiative to brighten up the streets on gloomy winter nights has once again proven popular with more than 21 entrants on display from January 10 to 15.

This year’s three categories were health and wellbeing, nature and climate change, and neighbourhood and community.

Organiser Councillor Kathrin Foster said: “This year we have worked hard to link community groups with High Street businesses and we are really pleased that quite a few have enabled ‘window-less’ groups such as Park Kids or Run Alcester to join the event and advertise their club.

“The judging has been a real pleasure although it was a massive challenge to choose between all the talent that is displayed around the town. We are happy to have been able to run the Alcester Window Wanderland Festival six years in a row now as it brightens up those dark and cold January nights for a few days.”

Started in 2015, the Window Wanderland project has spread all around the globe, inspiring communities to create a festival of light and colour from homes and businesses. The events take place throughout the year and no two are the same.

It is free to enter and aims to bring neighbourhoods together, reduce social isolation and inspire creativity.

The winners of each category were presented with certificates and prizes at last Friday’s mayor’s awards.

They were:

Nature and Climate Change –  Jen Hopkins in Castle Road

Community – 1st Alcester Scouts with Michael Beaver Opticians

Health & Wellbeing – Run Alcester at Pantry Ann’s

Overall best window was awarded to the Cherry Trees Care Home
