THE FUNERAL of Redditch man Marcus Meade who was shot by police on Christmas Eve will take place this Thursday, February 27, in Lozells in Birmingham.
Marcus was 39 and originally from Ladywood in Birmingham before he moved to Redditch.
The father-of-two was in his home in Fownhope Close when a stand-off ensued and he was shot by officers, dying from his injuries.
Despite concerns being raised by the Marcus’s family the Acting Chief Constable of West Mercia Police decided not to suspend the officer who fired the fatal shot.
Marcus’ mum Deborah Clarke, who is recovering from stroke and confined to a wheelchair, said: “This is wrong – we should not be burying my son on Thursday.
“All he needed was help.”
His dad, Anthony Meade, added: “This is all messed up. No way should we be having to organise a funeral, however, we will lay Marcus to rest with the dignity he deserves.”
The funeral will take place at 10.30am at The Assemblies of the First Born Church, 23 Lozells Road, Birmingham (B19 2TJ).
Mourners are being asked to wear an accessory if they are able in Neptune or baby blue.
The service will be conducted by the Chair of the Justice 4 Marcus Meade campaign Bishop Dr, Desmond Jaddoo MBE.
He said: “No funeral is ever easy, however, owing to the circumstances surrounding Marcus’s death and the fact that his family has several unanswered questions, makes this an even more difficult service – we will ensure that we do what is right in memory of Marcus.”
