REDDITCH MP Chris Bloore visited the Inkberrow Lunch Club to meet with residents and thank the dedicated volunteers who run the service.
The Inkberrow Lunch Club has been operating in the village for 25 years and provides a welcoming space.
Held on the third Thursday of each month at St Peter’s Hall, the club serves a freshly cooked two-course meal for just £5, offering both nourishment and companionship.
During his visit, Mr Bloore enjoyed a meal with attendees and spoke with volunteers about the club’s history and impact.
Originally founded in October 1999 by then-vicar Nick Wright and local community champion Elizabeth Collins, the club has only missed two meetings in its history due to bad weather.
Elizabeth dedicated 25 years to the scheme, including 20 years as head cook.
Today, a team of committed volunteers continues their legacy, ensuring the club remains a key part of village life.
Speaking after the visit, Mr Bloore said: “It was a real privilege to visit the Inkberrow Lunch Club and see firsthand the incredible work being done by its volunteers.
“This club is more than just a meal – it’s a lifeline for so many people, providing a strong sense of community and friendship.
“I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to Ruth O’Leary and the entire team who make this possible.”
The club’s dedicated management team includes Rev Ian Perry, Carol Pountney, Diana Woodhams, Nancy Laws, Lynn Newbury, Ruth O’Leary and Ann Robertshaw.
Beyond its role as a social hub, the Inkberrow Lunch Club also plays a key role in fundraising for local causes, having donated £1,000 in 2024 alone – £500 to Acorns Children’s Hospice and £500 to Inkberrow School’s minibus fund.
Mr Bloore added: “I encourage anyone who may be feeling isolated or simply looking for good food and great company to attend one of these wonderful lunches.
“Community-led initiatives like this are the backbone of our villages and I will continue to support them in any way I can.”
