Woodrow celebrates new artworks with party, performances and art trail

PEOPLE in Redditch are being invited to enjoy an art trail, creative activities and live performances at a community party in Woodrow this Easter holiday.

‘Let’s Celebrate Woodrow’ is a free event at Woodrow Centre on Wednesday, April 23, to celebrate three Reimagine Redditch public art projects – Planting Healthy Minds, Love Woodrow, and Paint the Town Redditch.

People can drop in with their own picnic between 12pm and 4pm to join in the fun.

The art trail will involve a short walk around the centre of Woodrow to complete a quiz about Woodrow’s new artworks and the projects and people involved.

There will also be activities with Creative Arts Showcase, performances and ‘have a go’ workshops with Solo Circus, and poetry with local legend and performer, Spoz.

Carlie Butler, a Woodrow resident and Reimagine Redditch Community Reacher, said: “With Planting Healthy Minds, we wanted to do something new and creative to help end the stigma on mental health and to show people ways to cope.

“The community spoke and we listened.

“And we wanted to have a supportive environment where everyone feels valued.

“Love Woodrow was all about brightening the place up and bringing back a sense of pride in where we live.

“And Paint the Town Redditch is all about expressing something unique to Redditch through art and then sharing that for everyone to see and enjoy.

“The effort, creativity, and care poured into these projects by every participant made them truly special.”

Richard Bromhall, programme director for Reimagine Redditch, said: “Co-creating new art is exciting and satisfying but it’s also a busy time for everyone involved.

“This is a chance for everybody to take a moment to think back on the whole experience, and of course, to enjoy the art they created together.

“It might just spark some ideas for what’s next, too.”
