A VARIETY of activities are planned at Redditch’s Forge Mill Museum to celebrate VE Day 80.
Ahead of the big day, the venue has put out an appeal for the community to donate red, white and blue items to help decorate the site.
Individuals, groups and schools are all being urged to get involved. Contributions need to be in by Tuesday, May 6.
From Thursday, May 8, to Sunday, May 11, there will be VE Day inspired refreshments on sale for people, including spam and cheese toasties and scones with jam and cream.
There is also a special display of photographs, thanks to the Redditch Local History Museum, depicting the original VE Day celebrations in the town and surrounding area from 1945.
Staff at the Forge Mill Museum will be uploading one picture of the original VE Day celebrations each day to the venue’s Facebook page between now and the weekend.
Among them are street parties, including one in Webheath Village Hall, and Birmingham Road residents commemorating the event with a trip to Dudley Zoo.
Then on the Saturday and Sunday, May 10 and 11, the Forge Mill Museum is holding a 1940s-themed weekend.
On Thursday, people can go on-site for free, take part in the activities and see the photographic display.
On the Saturday and Sunday, there will be the usual charges to enter the museum which will be open from 10am to 4pm on both days.
