THE STATE-of-the-art Redditch Police and Fire Hub has won a top award at this year’s Constructing Excellence Midlands West Awards.

Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) John Campion said the building, which won the ‘Delivering Value Award’, reiterated his commitment to reform the police estate whilst delivering greater value for taxpayers’ money.

The nomination showcased how consideration was not only made about cost, but also how the project would unlock societal benefits, with it delivering £8.78million in ‘social value’ for the local community – more than double its target.

‘Social value’ measures how a project positively impacts on people, relationships and communities.

Nominated by building contractors, Speller Metcalfe, the £18.3million project was overseen by the PCC’s estates team in partnership with West Mercia Police and Hereford and Worcester Fire & Rescue Service (HWFRS).

Other key stakeholders on the project included Bond Bryan Architects, PAGABO, Curtins, and Walker Cotter.

The Redditch Police and Fire Hub opened in January this year. Providing a base for both emergency services, it enables police officers and fire crews to tackle the modern-day challenges they face, meet the needs of local communities and deliver greater efficiencies.

Mr Campion said: “In 2023, I set out my ambition to deliver a new police base in the town, and I am delighted its opening has proven to be such a success, not only for the officers and staff who work within it but also for local communities.

“The project wouldn’t have been possible without the efforts of the people on the ground who have made it happen and I’m grateful for support from West Mercia Police and HWFRS at every step of the way.

“It’s therefore brilliant to see they have all received the recognition they deserve for the integral role they have played in delivering a once in a generation project in Redditch.”

The project was also shortlisted for the Building Project of the Year Award.
