Redditch school is first to get £100,000 worth of investments

A REDDITCH School has received a £100,000 investment, one of the first in the country to benefit from the Government’s new national programme for school-based nurseries.

The funding will enable the school to create up to 20 new early years places and deliver improved SEND support at Matchborough First School Academy.

The investment forms part of the Government’s Plan for Change, which will deliver up to 6,000 new childcare places nationwide this year and help working families save up to £7,500 a year through 30 hours of government-funded childcare.

Chris Bloore, MP for the town has welcomed the news.

During a visit to the school, he given a tour by Headteacher Lynn Briers and Chair of Governors Juliet Brunner.

He said: “It was an inspiring morning at Matchborough First School Academy. The dedication of the staff, the confidence of the children and the warmth of the school community were clear to see.

“I’m proud that Matchborough is among the first schools in the country to benefit from Labour’s new school-based nursery programme.

“This £100,000 investment is not just a vote of confidence in the school – it’s a signal of our ambition to give every child in Redditch the best possible start in life.

“I’ll continue working with schools across our area to secure the resources they need to succeed and to champion inclusive, high-quality education at every stage.”

The new nursery funding forms part of a £37million national initiative led by the Department for Education, aiming to transform early years education by establishing nursery places directly in schools.
