A DOG and her owner got more than they bargained for on their morning walk when a game of fetch turned into a drugs find in Redditch.
Aj Abrar was walking his dog Bonnie on Wednesday morning in Mayfields Park in Southcrest, playing fetch. He threw the ball for Bonnie into some bushes and she was unable to find it.
They both started looking, when Aj came across a bag that Bonnie was sniffing.
Aj said: “Every morning I tend to do a clean up of the area where I take Bonnie for a walk, so I naturally thought it was rubbish.
“But when I got closer to the package, I could smell that it was cannabis.”
Aj was unsure of what to do, but then remembered only a couple of weeks prior he had spoken to the local PCSO and she had given him her card.
He phoned the officer and the police collected the package the same morning.
Aj said he was glad he was able to help and proud of Bonnie, who has her own TikTok page with almost 3,000 followers.
“I take pride of where I live – most mornings when I take Bonnie for a walk I keep an eye on the community and collect litter to make sure it is clean and tidy.
“I’m chuffed that Bonnie found the drugs and that they’re not on the streets.”
Sgt Charlie Osborne from Redditch Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) said: “Redditch SNT has attended Mayfields Park responding to a call from a member of the public who had located a suspicious bag containing what was believed to be drugs.
“The bag in question contained a quantity of cannabis and has since been recovered by police.
“We’d like to take the opportunity to thank the member of the public for their vigilance and encourage the wider community to speak to their local policing team whenever they have concerns.”
