Redditch's St Bede's awarded British International School award

A REDDITCH Middle School has been awarded Intermediate level of the British Council’s prestigious International School Award in recognition of its work to bring the world into the classroom.

The International School Award celebrates the achievements of schools that do exceptional work in international education.

St Bede’s Catholic Middle School’s international work includes amongst others pen pal exchange with a French partner school, a German taster morning hosted by student ambassadors from the University of Warwick as well as hosting a yearly International Day of Languages.

Headteacher Lloyd Roberts said: “We are delighted that the British Council has recognised the rich, broad, and challenging curriculum our school offers.

“This acknowledgment highlights the exciting and impactful work of our Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) leadership and teaching team, whose dedication continues to inspire our pupils.

“We believe that learning languages is not just about communication—it nurtures essential life skills, deepens cultural understanding, and sparks curiosity about the wider world.

“While the benefits of language learning may not always be immediately visible, they are profound and long-lasting, equipping our pupils with the tools to thrive in an interconnected global society.

“We look forward to building on this success and further developing our MFL provision to ensure every learner has the opportunity to explore, connect, and grow.”

Shannon West, head of UK Schools for the British Council, said: “St Bede’s Catholic’s Middle School’s international work has earned the school well-deserved recognition with the British Council International School Award – Intermediate Certificate.

“We are proud and delighted to work with this great school. Many thanks to everyone for all their commitment to developing international work and sharing excellent classroom practice and resources.

“This is enriching education for its pupils, and their excellent collaborative projects with partner schools overseas are bringing the world into their classrooms.

“International work is key support for developing skills young people need to be globally aware citizens of the future.”
