Redditch MP Chris Bloore questions Defence Secretary after NATO summit

REDDITCH MP Chris Bloore has underlined the importance of Britain’s leadership in NATO and international defence partnerships following last week’s historic NATO summit.

Speaking in the House of Commons during Defence Topical Questions, Mr Bloore pressed Defence Secretary John Healey on the need for the UK to work even more closely with NATO allies to tackle evolving global threats and ensure families in Redditch and across Britain remain safe.

Mr Bloore asked: “Last week’s historic NATO summit concluded with members laying the foundation for a stronger united NATO.

“With the changing nature of the threats we face, does the Secretary of State agree that working even more closely with our NATO allies is crucial to keeping the UK secure at home and stronger abroad?”

Mr Healey agreed, stating the contribution the UK to NATO deterrence and defence is a big part of keeping us safe for the future.

The recent NATO summit in Washington DC marked the alliance’s 75th anniversary, with member nations reaffirming their commitment to collective defence and addressing new challenges such as cyber warfare, terrorism and state-level aggression.

Mr Bloore added: “Redditch has a proud tradition of supporting our Armed Forces.

“In an uncertain world, strong alliances like NATO matter more than ever.

“Our constituents can be reassured that this Government is working closely with our international partners to keep our communities safe and secure.”
