Studley and Alcester MP wants a north/south Warwickshire in local government reform plan

MP Manuela Perteghella is backing a north/south split of Warwickshire under Government plans to introduce single local authorities in England.

The Stratford district MP was in Studley last Saturday during her busy ‘summer tour’ of the constituency.

And as elsewhere on her rounds the village hall booking ran over as people queued to meet her.

Speaking of plans for a single unitary authority to replace both the county council and district council, she said: “I will be lobbying for a south Warwickshire single authority covering Warwick and Stratford districts as I believe that is the best option for local people.

”We have very different needs from the more urban environment of north Warwickshire.

“And let’s face it, we don’t really want councillors from Nuneaton, Rugby and Bedworth making decisions on planning and education in Studley, Alcester and Stratford.”

The Liberal Democrat MP also spoke warmly after the Government adopted a number of her party’s policies.

“This year has ben a whirlwind but with some notable achievements,” she said.

“I campaigned for free school meals, and this has been adopted, and we are also pleased that Ofwat has been scrapped which will make our water companies more accountable to you, the people who pay for them. I also sit on the educational select committee and we are working on plans to improve the provision for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

“Locally I am working on making the district a better place to live, work and visit as well as working on tackling anti-social behaviour, so, we’ve been busy!”
