More than 200 flock to open day at The Cave - Redditch's planned live performance, events and community hub

MORE THAN 200 people attended a successful open day at The Cave – a multi-purpose live performance, events and community hub planned for the town.

The event was hosted by The Palace Drum Clinic (PDC), a registered charitable organisation, to raise awareness of The Cave which will be located in the former FarmFoods unit in the Kingfisher Centre.

The venue is aimed at supporting cultural provision in Redditch by providing professional performance, recording and rehearsal space.

Members of the Cave Team were on hand to explain the layout of the venue with a stage, licensed bar, ticket and information desk, fully sound-proof recording and rehearsal pods, an open office area, kitchenette and toilets including accessible and baby changing facilities.

A video reel gave an idea of what the interior would look like after being fitted out.

Local singers and musicians including Alan Sheward, Lampshade, Danny Manic, and Redditch’ Got Talent winner, Elsie Fletcher, performed throughout the day, showcasing just a small amount of the original musical talent there is in Redditch.

Speaking after the event, PDC creative director Matt Green said: “It was great to see support for this potential new venue from all of the community.

“Redditch is needing a space for musicians, creatives and community groups to come together to showcase all of their talents, and to have amazing local talent playing on the day just cements what we tried to create.”

Among the many events planned for the venue will be music nights and monthly clubs, such as jazz, blues and the spoken word.

There will be three recording studios within the venue to attract many musicians and artists back into the area.

There are also plans for comedy nights, race nights, gaming festivals and for groups to meet there in the daytime, such as mum and baby get-togethers and regular events to combat loneliness and offer mental health support.

A crowdfunder has been launched to help raise cash towards the £150,000 cost of the fit-out.

Bids will also be submitted to grant-giving organisations and the PDC has also contacted businesses and organisations within Redditch district, offering them the opportunity to become involved and sponsor the project, with custom packages available depending on the level of support given.
