A PROLIFIC Redditch shoplifter has been sentenced to a total of 18 weeks when she appeared before the courts.
Claire Kopusto, 42, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to three counts of theft from shop and one count of breaching a criminal behaviour order (CBO). She appeared before Redditch Magistrates Court on Thursday.
Kopusto was sentenced to ten weeks for the CBO breach. She was also sentenced to four weeks each consecutively for two counts of theft from shop and four weeks concurrently for the third charge. And she was ordered to pay £28 compensation.
PC Mike Moore, from the Redditch Town Centre Policing Team said: “We’re pleased that a custodial sentence was handed down to Kopusto, whose repeated shoplifting has had a significant impact on retailers in the town.
“We hope this outcome sends a clear message: if you commit retail crime.
“We will pursue you through the courts – and you may face prison.
“Shoplifting is often wrongly seen as a victimless crime. In reality, it affects not just businesses, but also their staff and the wider public.”
