Family and friends of Marcus Meade to hold rally to mark one year since his death

FAMILY and friends of Marcus Meade, who was shot by a West Mercia Police officer on Christmas Eve last year, will gather to hold a public rally to mark one year since his death.

The rally, at West Mercia Police Headquarters in Hindlip, will include the presentation of a petition calling for the suspension of the firearms officer involved, or alternatively the resignation of the Chief Constable.

The family stated it was still seeking answers and felt West Mercia Police had not been as forthcoming as it should be and had shown no real remorse for Marcus’ death.

They said they remained concerned the officer who discharged their weapon continued to carry a firearm while investigations were ongoing.

As Christmas approaches, the family emphasises that, while others celebrate, they will instead be mourning the loss of a son, father, and loved one whose life, they say ‘should never have ended this way’.

The family feel West Mercia Police are not being as forthcoming as they should be and are not showing any real remorse for the death of Marcus.

They note that no officer involved has been suspended, despite their repeated calls for precautionary action.

Community members, faith leaders and civil rights advocates have raised broader concerns about the policing of individuals experiencing mental health crises.

The Justice for Marcus Meade Campaign maintains vital questions about the authorisation, conduct and proportionality of the police operation remain unanswered.

The rally takes place from 12pm to 1.30pm on December 22.
