Winyates Craft Centre volunteer wins High Sheriff award

A VOLUNTEER who runs Winyates Craft Centre has been recognised by The High Sheriff of Worcestershire who paid the venue a visit to present her with an award for her tireless dedication, by Toby Almond.

Karen Martin volunteers at the training and development centre which provides poverty support, crisis intervention and domestic abuse support for those in the local community.

At the centre, as well as the crafts, Karen and her team of volunteers also offer a food bank, baby bank, charity shop and a cafe.

She was presented with the High Sheriff’s Award, along with a certificate and a badge to commemorate her contribution.

Mayor of Redditch, Coun Joanna Kane, who nominated Karen for the accolade, said: “Karen and her team of volunteers are a shining example of the unsung heroes in our community who work tirelessly to help local people.

“They are an invaluable asset to Redditch, I am very pleased that Karen’s hard work has been recognised by the High Sheriff.




High Sheriff, Ian Smith added: “Karen is exactly the kind of individual these awards are designed for.

“Through years of selfless hard work and dedication she has developed an organisation and facilities that make a huge difference to local people’s lives.”
