REDDITCH MP visited the Post Office branch in the town centre to meet new Postmaster Richard Fleetwood following a successful campaign to keep the service open.
Following public concern and a petition led by MP Chris Bloore and backed by the Standard, a new Postmaster came forward to take on the branch, ensuring provision continued.
During the visit, Mr Fleetwood discussed his plans to maintain core Post Office services while expanding the retail offering.
He also told Mr Bloore how he hoped to introduce additional services to strengthen the branch’s long-term sustainability.
Access to cash, everyday banking and face-to-face services is becoming increasingly limited as high-street banks close branches and reduce operating hours.
Redditch alone has lost NatWest, Barclays, HSBC and Santander is due to close this year.
The MP said this made the presence of a strong Post Office even more important – particularly for older residents, small businesses and those who relied on in-person transactions.
He said: “Last year, as a community, we came together and made it clear Redditch needed to keep a Post Office in the town centre and we succeeded.
“It was great to meet Richard, hear about his plans for the branch and thank him for stepping forward to protect this vital service.
