Acts of Kindness Foodbank appeals for community support as donations fall and demand rises

A REDDITCH foodbank has made an urgent appeal to residents after seeing food donations fall significantly while the number of people needing support continues to grow.

Acts of Kindness Foodbank said life for many families across Redditch was becoming increasingly difficult.

Rising household costs, unexpected bills, reduced working hours, illness and financial pressures are leaving more people struggling to make ends meet.

As a result, more individuals and families are turning to the foodbank for help.

At the same time, the generosity that keeps the foodbank shelves stocked is being affected by the very same pressures.

Emma Marshall from Acts of Kindness Redditch Foodbank said: “People in our community are incredibly generous, but we know many households are feeling the pinch themselves.

“Unfortunately, this has led to a reduction in donations at exactly the same time as demand for our services has increased.

“Every week we meet people who never imagined they would need a foodbank.

“Many are working, caring for family members, or facing an unexpected crisis that has pushed them beyond their financial limits.

“We never want to turn anyone away, but we urgently need the community’s help to ensure we can continue supporting local people when they need us most.”

The foodbank is asking residents to consider adding an extra item or two to their shopping basket and donating it at one of the many collection points across the town.

Donation points can be found at Tesco, Asda, Lidl, Aldi, Redditch Library, NatWest Bank and the Abbey Stadium or produce can be brought directly to Acts of Kindness Redditch Foodbank, Number 24 AOK, 24 Church Green East.

Emma added: “Redditch has always been a community that looks after its own.

“If everyone who is able donated just one extra item, together we could make a huge difference to local families who are struggling right now.”
