Residents are being invited to help kick-start a new national community movement when the first ever Make Britain Beautiful Community Action Day takes place in Redditch later this month.

The event, organised by Make Britain Beautiful in partnership with Redditch BID, will be held on Saturday 25 July, with volunteers meeting at 10am outside Acts of Kindness, 24 Church Green East.

The community clean-up will focus on improving Church Green and surrounding areas through litter picking, weeding and cleaning public signs.

Volunteers will be divided into teams carrying out a variety of tasks, including weeding around the Redditch Foodbank car park, litter picking around Church Green, removing weeds from public spaces and cleaning signs to help brighten up the town centre.

Make Britain Beautiful was founded by Claire Bullivant, Mike Rouse and Emma Marshall, all Redditch residents who believe local communities can play a powerful role in improving the places where they live.

The scheme aims to encourage civic pride, support local businesses and empower residents to take practical action in their own neighbourhoods.

Claire Bullivant said:

“We’re delighted to be launching the first Make Britain Beautiful Community Action Day right here in Redditch and incredibly grateful to Redditch BID for supporting the initiative.

“This is about local people coming together to make a visible difference. Whether you can spare an hour or the whole morning, we’d love to see you there. Small actions can make a huge difference when a community pulls together.”

Mike Rouse said:

“People often tell us they want to see cleaner streets, better-maintained public spaces and greater pride in our town. This is an opportunity for residents to be part of the solution and make a real difference in their local area.

“We want Make Britain Beautiful to become a positive movement that brings communities together and shows what can be achieved when people take ownership of the places they care about.”

Emma Marshall added:

“Redditch has a fantastic community spirit and we hope people of all ages will come along and get involved. This is about working together, meeting new people and helping make our town centre look its very best.”

Muj Rahman, Redditch BID Manager, welcomed the scheme and encouraged people to get involved. He said:

“Redditch BID is proud to support this community action day as part of our ongoing commitment to creating a cleaner, safer and more welcoming town centre. This initiative aligns closely with the BID’s priorities of enhancing the visitor experience, supporting local businesses and encouraging greater community pride in Redditch.

“It’s inspiring to see residents, volunteers, businesses and local organisations coming together to make a positive difference. By working in partnership, we can help create a town centre that everyone can be proud of. We would encourage anyone who can spare some time to come along, get involved and play their part in shaping a better Redditch for everyone.”

Organisers are encouraging volunteers to bring gardening gloves, litter pickers, buckets, cloths, towels and any other useful equipment they may already have at home. The aim is for the day to be a true community effort, with everyone contributing whatever they can. Those without equipment are still very welcome to attend.

Participants are advised to wear suitable outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear.

The event marks the first official Make Britain Beautiful action day, with organisers hoping to roll out similar community projects across the country in the months ahead.

Whether you can spare an hour or the whole morning, come along and join us. Meet outside Acts of Kindness, 24 Church Green East, at 10am on Saturday 25 July and help make a difference.
