Historic RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight to honour Astwood Bank Carnival

THE Royal Air Force’s Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) will perform a spectacular flypast over this year’s Astwood Bank Carnival celebrations.

The flypast is scheduled for 4pm, when the iconic Mk V Spitfire AB910 will soar over the village.

Spitfire AB910 is one of Britain’s most historic aircraft, having flown 143 operational missions between 1941 and 1945, including both the Dieppe Raid and the D-Day landings.

Today, she proudly carries the distinctive D-Day invasion markings, serving as a flying tribute to the courage and sacrifice of those who served during the Second World War.

The Carnival Committee would like to extend its sincere thanks to the Royal Air Force and the dedicated team behind the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight for making this very special tribute possible.

Their continued commitment to preserving and sharing our nation’s aviation heritage ensures future generations can experience these remarkable aircraft in flight.

To help ensure the flypast can take place safely, members of the public are reminded that the use of drones or UAVs, fireworks, kites, hot air balloons, model aircraft or any other kind of passenger flight is strictly prohibited during the allocated flypast period.

These restrictions are essential to protect the safety of the aircraft, crew and everyone attending the event.

Carnival organisers said they hope this advance notice allows local residents, particularly those with livestock or horses, to make any arrangements they feel are appropriate ahead of the flypast.
