REDDITCH MP Chris Bloore has urged men across the area to prioritise their health after attending a sold-out prostate cancer screening event.
The PSA testing clinic, held at Evesham Rugby Club, was organised by the Worcestershire Prostate Cancer Support Group (WPCSG) in partnership with the Rotary Club of Evesham.
More than 240 men attended, taking a simple blood test that can detect early signs of prostate cancer before symptoms appear.
A PSA test measures levels of prostate-specific antigen, a protein produced by the prostate gland. Early detection can significantly improve treatment outcomes.
Speaking after the event, Mr Bloore said: “We men will happily spend hours arguing about football, fixing things that weren’t broken or insisting we don’t need directions.
“But when it comes to looking after our health, suddenly we’re ‘too busy.’
“The prostate might not be the most exciting topic in the pub but prostate cancer is something we all need to take seriously.
“Getting checked could make all the difference.
“If this encourages just one more person to stop putting it off and get checked, it will have been worthwhile.
“I want to thank the Worcestershire Prostate Cancer Support Group and the Rotary Club of Evesham for making this possible.”
Trevor Battersby, fron the Rotary Club of Evesham, said the session reached full capacity, demonstrating strong local demand for accessible testing.
The Worcestershire Prostate Cancer Support Group is now looking to expand its support network into Redditch and recruit new volunteers to ensure local men and their families have immediate access to peer support and resources following a diagnosis.
