CENTURIES from both openers helped Alvechurch and Hopwood CC to a remarkable 231-run victory against Kidderminster 3rds.

Both Jamie Rachman and Mike Gilmour reached triple figures as Alvechurch posted a mammoth 409-7 from their 45 overs at Chester Road.

And Alvechurch bowled the home side out for 178 in 34.2 overs to win by a significant margin.

The result means Alvechurch remain top of the Worcestershire County League Division Six (North) table.

Kidderminster won the toss and elected to field but the decision backfired as Rachman (103) and Gilmour (136) piled on the runs.

The pair enjoyed an extraordinary 231-run stand at the crease before Joseph Barker (1-47) eventually broke up the partnership.

A half-century from Lee De Souza (52) boosted Alvechurch’s total while David Wall (24 not out) and Richard Adams (23) added useful runs.

The visitors reached 409-7 at the end of their innings as Jack Meese (4-95) took four wickets.

Kidderminster’s first five batters all reached double figures in reply while Jack Dawson (65 not out) hit an unbeaten half-century.

However, Dawson lacked support at the crease as Ben Dunn (4-37) did the damage with the ball to bowl the hosts out in a 231-run victory.

Alvechurch and Hopwood are next in action against Bromsgrove 3rds on Saturday, July 25 with play to begin at 12.30pm at Alvechurch Cricket Ground.
