BAD WEATHER did not dampen spirits as 250 people flocked to Headless Cross Green for the district’s annual Apple Day.

Dozens of stalls offered food, crafts and community information with entertainment provided by Silhill Morris dancers, acoustic musicians Alan Sheward and Garth Kirkham and a pole-lathe demonstration from Tom Dillon.

Mayor Pat Witherspoon opened the event on Saturday (October 4) while those visiting tried traditional game Aunt Sally, pressed their own apple juice and tried out the Human Fruit Machine.

Orchard volunteer Neil Marsh said: “Yet another fantastic Apple Day and great response from the community to events on Headless Cross Green. Despite the soggy start, when the sun finally did come out so did the crowds. We’re very pleased.”
