£1 record sale proves a hit

THOUSANDS of die hard music fans queued for hours to grab one of 75,000 records priced at just £1.

About 4,000 people lined up outside the gates of Reddington’s Rare Records on Britten Street last Saturday (September 6) to grab a piece of musical history.

Owner Dan Reddington decided to sell his entire collection of LPs, singles, soundtracks and more, after nearly 50 years in the industry.

The 73-year-old had been running the online shop Reddington’s Rare Records from Unit 2 for the past few years after moving from several locations in Birmingham City Centre.

But he finally decided to dust off his collection and ditch it all to focus on his personal life.

“Downloads just don’t compare to having that record. People want something that’s physical. You ask anyone what their first record was and they will still know straight away.”

Any unsold stock will go to his niece who works for the Midlands Air Ambulance.
