Hedgerows put near ancient monument

Redditch Editorial 15th Jan, 2015 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

NEW HEDGEROWS are being laid near an ancient Redditch monument.

The Midweek Conservation Group has been working in partnership with the borough council on the site of the protected Victorian Forge Mill Needle Museum and Bordesley Abbey to relay hedges on part of the site’s southern border near to Park Way using traditional techniques.

The project is part of a Natural England scheme called ‘higher level environmental stewardship’.

Council leader Bill Hartnett said: “Putting traditional hedge laying arts to work will only enhance Forge Mill, which is a scheduled ancient monument.

“They will fit in with the natural surroundings, next to Bordesley Abbey and Arrow Valley Country Park, and in time will improve habitats for wildlife too.”
