Teen charged with fraud

Redditch Editorial 2nd Apr, 2015 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

A TEENAGE boy has been charged in connection with a spate of bogus calls where Redditch residents handed over their bank details.

In August last year, a number of reports were received by West Mercia Police where fraudsters claimed the victim’s card had been cloned and would then ask the person to contact the bank.

But they would remain on the line to take their bank details, before sending a courier to collect their card.

A 16-year-old boy from London was arrested on August 31.

He is charged with five counts of theft and 15 counts of fraud by false representation.

The charges relate to four occasions when a courier was sent out to an address and a total of £2,800 was taken.

More than £1,600 has been recovered so far.

He will appear at Worcester Youth Court on Wednesday, April 15.
