EXPECTANT mums in Alcester and the surrounding areas can now get routine pregnancy care closer to home.
Previously women would have to travel to either Warwick Hospital, Stratford Hospital or the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch each time they needed to see a consultant obstetrician.
But following patient feedback on accessibility and ways to improve the service, South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust (SWFT) has launched an obstetric antenatal clinic at Alcester Health Centre.
Designed to support the Trust’s midwifery service, the clinic offers weekly access to a consultant obstetrician, a midwife and an ultrasonographer.
The centre – based on Fields Park Drive – already has a consultant-delivered gynaecology clinic on Thursday mornings, which offers women the option of having gynaecological scanning in a clinic setting.
But the new service – available to all women who live in the Alcester and its surrounding areas – means the centre will now be able to do regular blood tests, scans, and reviews readily available at other hospitals.
Wendy Jones, head of midwifery at SWFT said: “I believe women in the local community will really benefit from having such a valuable facility closer to home.”
