A BOOK revealing the lives of Redditch soldiers killed during the First World War is set to go on sale tomorrow (Saturday) to raise funds for the Poppy Appeal.
Remembering Redditch’s Fallen Heroes features the stories of more than 400 soldiers who fought and died in the First World War including how they lost their lives, where they lived and how they earnt a living before being called up to fight for king and country.
The book, which stretches to more than 150 pages, covers those soldiers listed on war memorials at St Stephen’s, St George’s, St Luke’s, St Philip’s, St John the Baptist in Feckenham, Astwood Bank and some not listed on any of the main memorials.
It is the product of two years of research by a group of volunteer researchers and local historians funded by grants from Redditch Borough Council’s Stronger Communities Fund and Redditch Round Table.
The book will go on sale tomorrow in the Kingfisher Shopping Centre when a scaled down version of the exhibition staged at St Philip’s Church in August will also be on show in Worcester Square.
The book will be on sale after tomorrow from Heaphys Menswear on Church Green West.
All proceeds from the book will be donated to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.
