THE LONG-RUNNING saga of Church Hill’s missing postbox has finally been resolved.
A new box was reinstated at the district centre on Monday after residents had gone 13 months without one and were instead forced to queue to use the Post Office branch inside newsagent McColl’s.
The former postbox was removed when the new shopping units and doctors’ surgery were created on the opposite side of the road as part of a multi-million revamp of the centre.
Ian Johnson from Church Hill Big Local and Coun Pat Witherspoon have been lobbying Royal Mail constantly over the past year to restore the postbox.
Mr Johnson said: “The lack of our postbox has caused disruption in the local shop with large queues forming simply to post a letter.
“I am very pleased and think the centre is now complete.”
