Man wanted in connection with pickpocketing on train

Redditch Editorial 21st Jan, 2015 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

A WOMAN challenged a thief after she was told by a train passenger she had been pickpocketed.

The theft happened on board a train at Redditch railway station which was heading towards Lichfield.

Before the train left the station the woman was told by another passenger that a man had just stolen her phone from her trouser pocket.

The victim alerted the train guard and they both followed the man off the train and confronted him in the ticket office.

An altercation took place and both the woman and guard were verbally abused, before the guard was pushed and the man handed back the phone.

The incident took place shortly before 7pm on October 31 last year but British Transport Police, who have been reviewing CCTV footage, have only this week released an image of a man they want to speak to as part of the investigation.

Sgt Alun Jones said: “Who is the man in the CCTV images? I want to speak to him about what happened that evening. If you recognise him, or have any other information that could help, please get in touch.”

Anyone with information should contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
