AN ALCESTER grandad has started the new year by putting his feet up after working at the same site for half a century.

Alan Jones followed in the footsteps of his mother and brother by working at an Alcester factory making brass products for 25 years.

The site was later purchased by Smith Brothers and Webb and Mr Jones was kept on as a fitter by the manufacturers of Britannia washing systems for buses, coaches, trucks and trains, for a further 25 years.

The 66-year-old said he would take many happy memories with him and was looking forward to enjoying his hobbies which include fishing, gardening and walking his dog.

He said: “When I get up in the morning I don’t worry about going to work – I love what I do.

“I would have liked to have worked there for longer, but my hips have got the better of me.”

Andy Barracliffe, sales and marketing director for Smith Brothers and Webb, said Mr Jones made a valuable contribution to the company’s success over the years and he wished him a long and happy retirement.
