THE M42 was temporarily closed early evening yesterday (May 5) following two incidents which involved no less than 13 cars.

Three ambulances, a rapid response vehicle and two paramedic officers were sent to the scene at 5.10pm between junctions two, Alverchurch, and one, Bromsgrove.

Some of the nine vehicles involved in the first accident suffered signicant damage but luckily no one was injured.

The second collision on the southbound carriageway, which involved a van, lorry and two cars, left two middle aged men immobilised using neck collars and spinal boards after complaints of neck and side pain.

They were taken by ambulance to the Alexandra Hospital.

Two women in their twenties were also taken to the hospital, one who was pregnant as a precaution and the other with neck pain.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Considering the situation and number of vehicles involved, it is indeed fortunate that there were not more serious injuries.”
