MORE than £40,000 has been raised in memory of a Winyates girl.

The Lucie Southall Leukaemia Fund was formed by family and friends after the 12-year-old passed away in August last year.

Since then fund-raising events including auctions, a darts night, a bungee jump and a fishing competition have all been held to boost funds for the Ronald McDonald House which offers free accommodation as well as support for families visiting sick children.

A cheque for £17,000 has been handed over to the house which will help fund two rooms for the next three years, one of which parents Wayne and Michelle stayed during Lucie’s battle.

Money has also gone to the Birmingham Children’s Hospital which cared for the youngster, as well CureLeukaemia, Click Sargent and The Willows Hedgehog Sanctuary in Bromsgrove.

Family friend Clare Holder said: “Team Lucie knows Lucie is the inspiration in all we have done and will carry on doing in her name.”
