A MYSTERY benefactor has donated a lifesaving defibrillator to Webheath Village Hall.

The hi-tech piece of kit, which cost more than £1,000, was presented by Rob Underwood, of Matchborough, who tragically lost two children, Charlotte and Craig, to Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS).

“The village hall is in constant use by a wide variety of groups from the Kickers — children aged three to five learning to play football — to belly dancers, in fact all sorts of dancers, to Age UK,” said chairman Fred Tebbs. “We were saving up to buy a defibrillator so this is a most welcome gift.”

Training sessions have been organised and invitations sent out to all hall user groups and local residents to take part.

“Cardiac arrest is something that could happen anywhere and at anytime so this is a most valuable addition to the village hall and we are incredibly grateful,” said Mr Tebbs.

Mr Underwood was given the debrillator by the benefactor to hand over through the Charlotte and Craig Saving Hearts Foundation which wants to help any local organisation raising funds to buy a machine.

“Without a debrillator your chance of survival is five to 10 per cent, with one it’s 80 per cent, it’s a simple as that,” he said.
