VISITORS will be able to step back in time at Ipsley Church when it opens its doors from August 24 to September 3.
Visitors can discover the story of the historic church — there is mention of a priest at Ipsley in William the Conqueror’s Domesday Book — as well as get to grips with more modern attractions including free refreshments and a treasure hunt for children.
The church, set in a commanding position just off Icknield Street Drive, which follows the line of the old Roman road, has a rich and diverse history from Anglo Saxon times, through the medieval period (one bell dates from 1365) and up to the present day. The church played a significant role in the lives of the Huband family in the Middle Ages and has a connection to Lord Leofric, the husband of Lady Godiva.
Nowadays the church is led by Cannon Garth Nathaniel and has a thriving congregation and both traditional and modern services and all are welcome to visit.
