A SCHEME which enables residents to step back in time will begin at St Peter’s Church in Ipsley on Monday (August 24).
Those who go along will be able to discover the story of the historic church from 10am to 4pm daily until September 3.
There is mention of a priest at the Ipsley church in William the Conqueror’s Domesday Book and visitors will also be able to enjoy more modern attractions like free tea and coffee and refreshments and participate in a treasure hunt around the site.
The church is set in a commanding position just off Icknield Street Drive, which follows the line of an old Roman road, and has a rich and diverse history from Anglo Saxon times, through the medieval period and up to the present day.
The church played a significant role in the lives of the Huband family in the Middle Ages and has a connection to Lord Leofric, the husband of Lady Godiva.
Nowadays the church is led by Cannon Garth Nathaniel and has a thriving congregation.
