AMBULANCE chiefs have hit out at vandals who damaged an ambulance attending a call out in Alcester.
It was parked up outside a property in Ten Acres shortly before 5pm on Sunday afternoon (September 6) when the vehicle was targeted.
The crew returned after treating a patient inside a house to find the bumper of the vehicle had been prised off on one side.
Fortunately the crew did not need to take the patient to hospital so returned to base where the vehicle had to be taken off the road for the remainder of the day while fixed.
Martyn Scott, West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) area manager for Warwickshire, said: “It beggars belief why someone would do this to an ambulance, a vehicle designed to help save lives.
“The ambulance crew noticed the damage immediately after returning to their vehicle and were very disappointed and upset by the incident.”
“Warwickshire Police have been notified and we’re working with them to support their investigation.”
The attack came just a day after another attack in Shrewsbury which saw an ambulance window smashed. The vehicle also had to be taken off the road while it was repaired.
WMAS head of security Steve Elliker said: “Clearly the Trust will do everything it can to identify and prosecute the small number of individuals who believe it is acceptable to cause criminal damage and I would urge anyone who can assist the police with their investigations to contact them as soon as possible.”
