CANNABIS plants worth up to £100,000 were seized after police swooped during an early morning raid in Wythall.

Ten officers raided the three bedroom house, on Douglas Road, at 7am on Friday (September 18) after receiving a tip off from the community. A helicopter with thermal sensors had also picked up heat signals when it flew over the address, verifying suspicions.

Two dog handlers were on hand with specialist equipment as it was believed the premises also housed a dangerous Japanese fighting dog.

Inside, police found a grow tent in each bedroom and another down the garden in a shed.

Around 100 plants were found which once fully matured would have each been worth about £1,000.

The resident of the address, a 34 year-old man, was not present at the time and neither was the dog.

Four CCTV cameras watching the entrances of the property were also discovered.

Simon Albutt, a safer neighborhood officer for Wythall and Alvechurch, said: ” I am very satisfied with today’s find after information from the local community.

“We take drugs extremely seriously and when information is provided we will instigate a warrant as we have today.

“Approximately 100 plants have been taken off the streets, making the local community safer. We have no tolerance for drugs.”
