Trick or treaters urged to consider the elderly as Halloween fast approaches

Redditch Editorial 27th Oct, 2015 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

WITH THE scariest night of the year almost upon us, officers from Winyates and Matchborough local police team are asking people to respect the elderly who may find it a difficult and worrying time.

Tackling anti-social behaviour is a year-long priority for the Safer Neighbourhood Teams (SNT) but its prominence increases in the days and weeks around Halloween and Bonfire Night with officers reminding residents to demonstrate a certain degree of tolerance during this period, as not everyone likes trick or treating or feels it has a place in our communities in the UK.

SNT officers will be actively patrolling prominent anti-social behaviour areas within Winyates and Matchborough, with the aim of preventing large groups of youths from congregating and reassuring members of the community.

Trick or treaters are advised to not visit houses that display a ‘No trick or Treat’ sign, to alwas be accompanied with an adult and to plan a route in advance – only stopping at properties where you know the residents.

A torch is a handy item to take with you but revellers should still stay in areas that are well lit and take care not to go into any house or talk to strangers on the link.

Overall, Redditch residents are reminded that although Halloween is supposed to be spooky – they should be careful not to frighten vulnerable people.
