A SEVERE crash on the approach road to Sainsbury’s in Redditch has caused major disruption to both shoppers and the Birmingham Road supermarket.
The incident happened at around 5.30pm and involved a collision between at least two cars which brought down a lamp post which crashed into the middle of the carriageway.
Police and firefighters were quickly on the scene, officers sealing off the A448 entrance to Sainsbury’s while the fire brigade rescued the occupants of the vehicles, none of whom, the Redditch Standard understands, were seriously hurt.
As cars queued on the traffic island at the height of the rush hour the decision was taken to open the Fishing Line Road entrance to the supermarket for shoppers.
Police were last night continuing their investigation into how the collision occurred.
