REDDITCH Crematorium has raised more than £4,000 for charity by recycling left over metal.

The crematorium, on Bordesley Lane, presented the cheque to CRUSE a bereavement support organisation on Thursday (November 12).

The families gave permission for them to recycle any metal that is left behind after their loved ones are cremated, such a jewellery or metal hips and limbs.

Julie Mills, spokesperson for CRUSE, said: “It is through generous donations such as this that nationally Cruse Bereavement Care is able to help more than 100,000 people annually.

“The Cruse, Worcestershire branch supports more than 350 local bereaved people each year. This donation will enable Cruse to send out volunteers to see bereaved individuals and to train new volunteer counsellors in every aspect of grief and keep the telephone helpline open.”

Coun Bill Hartnett said: “Our crematorium is already know for its environmental credentials and I am delighted that we are not only recycling materials but able to help a charity which offers support to our residents.”
