Harvester staff forfeit presents to hold collection drive

KIND-HEARTED employees at The Dog Harvester at Mappleborough Green are forfeiting Christmas presents this year and holding a collection drive for a homeless shelter instead.

Staff are hosting the ‘drop off’ day next Saturday (December 19) from 9am to 1pm and are urging locals to donate tolietries, food and clothes to help people at Birmingham’s Christmas Shelter.

“We normally organise a Secret Santa,” said Sara Kenny, who came up with the idea of the Christmas donation. “But I thought it might be nice to do something a bit different this year to give something back to the community.”

The Shelter is a registered charity, run entirely by volunteers, which aims to offer food, warmth, shelter and companionship to homeless and lonely people in the Birmingham area, over the Christmas period.

Every donor will receive a Sunday Best voucher, entitling them to a free ice cream at The Dog, and a raffle ticket for a prize draw for a meal for two.

Staff at The Dog will also donate 10 meals to the Birmingham Christmas Shelter and a further 10 to Age UK.
