Brave Oliver enjoys a dream trip

A BRAVE Redditch boy won a magical trip of a lifetime to meet Santa Claus in Lapland after sadly losing his father earlier in the year.

Oliver Dixon, of Headless Cross, was nominated for Heart Breakfast’s Lapland competition by his great aunt after his father, Ian, died suddenly at their home in May at just 39-years-old.

The three-year-old and his mum, Charlotte Lowe, received the call on Tuesday, December 8 to say they were one of the five winning families and flew out just five days later.

The aspiring astronaut spent his time in the winter wonderland feeding reindeer, petting husky dogs and was even the first of the bunch to meet Father Christmas himself.

The children also had the opportunity to ride around on snow-mobiles, help the elves organise the presents in Wendy Wood’s toy workshop and even saw the Northern Lights.

Charlotte said: “It was just a magical experience. He was so excited and it was amazing to see the smile on his face.

“Apart from meeting Santa and playing in the snow, which he fell in, his favourite part was feeding the reindeer. He just loved that.”

Since Heart broadcast Oliver’s story where he told presenters he wanted a Bat Cave for Christmas, the family have been contacted by kind-hearted residents who want to buy him the popular toy.

“It is unbelievable the level of kindness we have experienced since winning the competition,” she added.

“People want to make donations to us after hearing our story.

“It is just amazing the amount of people who have just fallen in love with Oliver. It was very overwhelming when we won the competition and got sent on the trip and it has continued to be overwhelming ever since.

“I am obviously biased but he is an amazing little boy.”
