It’s a time to come together - Christmas message from Leader of Redditch Council

It’s a time to come together – a  Christmas message from Council Leader Bill Hartnett.

I HAVE to begin my Christmas message with a high and talk about the amazing events that have been put on all across the town this year. As always the annual firework display and Morton Stanley Festival were once again great successes – even in the rain – and the sun shone for the biggest Bandstand programme yet!

However, as joyous as these events have been, this year has seen its fair share of troubles such as the threat to the services at the Alexandra Hospital which remains an ongoing battle; one which I, along with neighbouring leaders and MPs, will continue to fight.

However, it’s not all doom and gloom – I recently attended the Schools Carol Concert at St Stephen’s Church which was excellent and we’re now coming to the end of an amazing programme of festivities in the town centre. We’ve seen Santa come to town, a Christmas Market and a festive family fun day with X-Factor and Dancing on Ice star Ray Quinn come to greet residents.

Christmas is a time to come together and as a town we do this all year round which was proven at the latest Pride of Redditch awards. There were some extremely worthy winners – many of whom want no thanks for the work they do. It is moments like this, when community spirit and unity shines through, that make me proud to be a part of the Redditch community.

I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and peaceful New Year.
