TWO grateful grandparents have donated a horde of Disney toys to the children’s ward at the town’s Alexandra Hospital after staff helped to treat their granddaughter when she was struck down with pneumonia.
Maureen and David Thorpe raised the funds from carol singing at pubs around their home village of Alvechurch and holding a raffle which received generous donations.
The pair have made a donation to the ward every year since granddaughter Lucy Clarke was treated at the site when she was just two.
During her time in hospital little Lucy was given a Disney toy from the toy cupboard to cheer her up.
Both Maureen and David were so touched by the thought that they replenish the cupboard annually with Lucy on hand to choose the toys from the Disney store in the Bull Ring Shopping Centre.
Brave Lucy turned seven on Sunday (January 3) and is now healthy and happy but has never forgotten the kindness of the staff.
