Susie’s plea to fund Fiji voluntary trip

Redditch Editorial 9th Jan, 2016 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

A KIND-HEARTED Matchborough tutor is asking for support to get her to Fiji to help underprivileged children.

Susie Heaton, of Haseley Close, will be going to the south sea islands, in August next year if she can raise about £1,000 to cover the expenses of the trip.

Alongside her friend, Bethany Humphreys, the 18-year-old will be helping to rebuild schools and create sanitary water catchments for clean water as well as teach children English and about sanitation. The two will part of a project ran by Vesa, who set up short stays for people to go and volunteer who may not be able to commit to a six month trip.

Susie’s work with children aged five to 14, as a tutor has motivated her to make the two week trip before she goes of to study Zoology at the University of Roehamton.

She said: “I love children and seeing that look on their face when they just get it is just amazing.

“I am going to university in September next year and rather than just going on normal holiday in the summer I wanted to be able to say I did something and helped people.

“Being in a developed country education is taken for granted. There are countries out there that do not have and they deserve better.”
