THE TOWN’S bookworms are invited to join in the celebrations at Redditch Library next week as the site celebrates its 40th birthday.
Staff at the library in Market Place will hold a birthday celebration on Wednesday (January 20) at 11am and all customers are invited to come along for tea and cake.
The Worcestershire Sounds Project will be on hand to record resident’s memories and anecdotes about Redditch and its library for posterity as part of an unique project which aims to create an oral history of the county.
The library, which opened its doors on January 24, 1976 was 22,000 square feet and cost £550,000 to build, furnish and equip.
The investment, which is the equivalent of around £4m today, was described at the time as ‘airy and open with a fresh yet functional feel’.
