‘Very bad news indeed’ on council tax bills

RESIDENTS of Studley and Alcester are facing a significant hike in council tax if proposals before councillors get the go-ahead.

And in a stinging attack at a Studley parish council meeting, county councillor Clive Rickhards (Studley, Lib Dem) rounded on the Government for starving Warwickshire of money.

“The county has suffered £98million in cuts since 2010 and a further reduction in Revenue Support Grant is very bad news indeed,” he said.

In total the county’s grant has been cut by 33 per cent for 2016/17 forcing it to find a further £10million in savings and a further £10million for 2017/18.

Coun Rickhards added the council was now looking at making a four per cent increase in its council tax levy, which would put approximately £50 per annum on a typical band ‘D’ property in Alcester and Studley.

At the same time Stratford district council is considering a £5 hike in its council tax take.

Such a rise is a 3.9 per cent increase with a proposed two per cent increase year-on-year thereafter.

If given the green light, the council tax of a band ‘D’ property in Studley would be about £1,643 (from £1,588) and in Alcester at £1,679, (from £1,624).

Stratford will decide its levy at the full council meeting on February 29.
